Nanking trailer online

NankingMemorial.jpgA trailer has arrived for the Hollywood Nanking documentary that looks to some of the events that occurred during the the Japanese invasion of China during World War II.

It will look at the work of a small group of unarmed westerners who created a safety zone where over two hundred thousand Chinese took refuge from the atrocities.

The film uses actors to speak the words of the westerners who documented the events through letters and diaries, and looks to actual survivors and Japanese soldiers to tell the rest of the story. Altogether it sounds a harrowing and moving story.

Names such as Woody Harrelson, Jürgen Prochnow, Mariel Hemingway and Stephen Dorff will read the letters and diaries and provide the emotional weight to the retelling in Nanking.

You can see the trailer over at Yahoo Movies [Flash] in their terrible player. Unfortunately I don't think the trailer really captures the essence of the film and what it is likely to deliver, a harrowing and emotional viewing.
