No Arnie in Terminator 4 script

Terminator.jpgThere are many tight lips around Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, but there are some small titbits being revealed. Now the producer Moritz Borman has revealed a little about a possible role for Arnold Schwarzenegger in the new Terminator film, and indeed the franchise.

Although he ruled out a place for him in this fourth film, he did reveal that the story is preparing for the appearance of his robot, and that he could well be making an appearance in future films.

That would definitely tie in with his time frame of returning to acting after his current political position ends, something we've heard his office say that he's not keen on continuing, and that rumours have his agents reaching out for scripts.

I don't care how old he is, I think he could easily make a return to the character, and pull it off fantastically. However the big question would be if the Terminator franchise builds itself back up to make a return worthwhile.

Over at The Sun through AITH Moritz Borman talks about the possibility and says:

"...this is the story everybody has been waiting for. Namely, we’re in the future. The part of it where Arnold’s character has not yet been built but is on the drawing board.

And in the next two episodes we’ll get to the point where time-travel is more in the foreground. It’s the war against the machines, the start of Skynet taking over the world...

...It’s convenient that he hasn’t been built at this point of the story, as Arnold has more important things to do right now, but that doesn’t mean he might not re-appear later in the trilogy...He knows the material and is very supportive of what we’re doing. There might even be hints of his character in this one."

So that means we've got a little ways to go before Arnie returns, perfect for his timed return to the big screen. It's also promising that Borman says Arnie knows the direction the script is taking and that he's supportive of it. However we will have to see what McG makes of it, and of that part I'm not so confident.

The producer remains vague about other aspects, and even the casting of Christian Bale, whom we are convinced is going to be John Connor, although not featuring as a main character. He does tell us that the script is remaining secret because there's a big twist at the end, and if you've been following the discussions to date you'll probably have a good idea what that is already.

They aren't going to be able to hide Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins for much longer, but I do hope that the script is really strong, that McG does pull everything out of the bag and delivers a great Terminator and that we see Arnie back in the role for the fifth film. Those are big wishes though.
