Persepolis trailer
Persepolis is adapted from the comic series written by Marjane Satrapi which tells the story of a young girl who grows up just during the Islamic revolution in Iran.
It's a simplistic animated style, and yet it looks really good and feels like it would work really well. According to the trailer quotes it seems to get a good buzz from some trustable internet sites too.
You can see the trailer over at Apple Trailers [QT:M:iPod:480p:720p:1080p] where I would suggest visiting for the entire plot breakdown which covers the girl growing into an adult and leaving Iran to study, returning again to marry, and leaving once again, struggling with her personal identity of being Iranian and yet struggling to live in the society.
Marjane Satrapi says of the Persepolis story:
"I believe that an entire nation should not be judged by the wrongdoings of a few extremists...I also don't want those Iranians who lost their lives in prisons defending freedom, who died in the war against Iraq, who suffered under various repressive regimes, or who were forced to leave their families and flee their homeland to be forgotten."
Have a look at the trailer, it looks very powerful but very personal too and looks at a country in a different light to the one that is being cast on it right now.
