Adrien Brody to play Chess
Adrien Brody is to play Leonard Chess the record company executive and founder of Chess Records. The musical biopic called Cadillac Records will also star Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, who Chess often played bass drum for and who was also signed to Chess records.
The film will follow the lives of Chess, Waters and other blues performers like Little Walter, and Howlin' Wolf. It will be set against the backdrop of Chicago in the 1950s, when Chess Records had artists such as Chuck Berry and The Flamingos signed to them. Chess Records and their artists were influential in the blues scene at that time, and in developing new forms of blues music. Yahoo! News says that Darnell Martin is to direct, with filming beginning in early Spring.
