Del Toro in talks for Hobbit 1 and 2

GuillermodelToro.jpgGuillermo del Toro is in talks to direct the two films that will make up J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit on the big screen.

There's no other word on who else is being considered for the job, but Peter Jackson will oversee both films as Producer.

Both Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson are set to oversee the script as well, although there is no scriptwriter assigned and won't be until the strike is over according to The Hollywood Reporter.

I think del Toro is a great choice for the task, although I do have a few concerns about which direction it will go. Hopefully Jackson will manage to reign him in and ensure that he doesn't go all out fantasy with this and stay true to the original story, for I do feel that del Toro could quite easily move into much more fantastical realms than Middle Earth has become.

Oh sure, don't get me wrong del Toro can do an amazing job, but if he was left to make the film himself I'm sure we wouldn't see such a traditional retelling of the story as we did with Peter Jackson at the helm - and this is not a cry for Jackson to direct, no I think the change will be good for the story.

We'll have to wait and see if he finally gets the job and accepts, but I really don't see at this stage him saying no, do you?

And I promise you I'll never desert you again because after 'Salome' we'll make another picture and another picture. You see, this is my life! It always will be! Nothing else! Just us, the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark!... All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up.
