Director found for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?
This may still be rumour at the moment, but it comes from what would appear to be a very valid and reliable source, and they are backing up suggestions that we've already heard, that David Yates could be set to direct Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as his next film.
The word comes from the writer of the book The Giver, which was going to be the next film Yates was going to direct, except Lois Lowry has revealed on their blog that it may not be the next film on his list.
"Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years."
So although this is bad news for fans of The Giver and for Lowry herself, it could well be viewed as excellent news for the Harry Potter fans. This looks like serious confirmation that David Yates is indeed directing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Good news then? According to the poll that's been running for some time on Filmstalker, perhaps not as he received the least votes on the list of directors you'd like to see at the helm. Here's how you voted:
34% - Guillermo del Toro
17% - M. Night Shyamalan
14% - Alfonso Cuarón
13% - Chris Columbus
12% - Other
5% - Mike Newell
4% - David Yates
The Other column had some great results in it too:
Terry Gillium (spelling!)
I love the idea of Boll, Greengrass or Roth directing the film, what a different beast we would see then, however I think Meyer might be a problem. Spielberg would bring something really special to the series though.
However Stalker's Poll bizarre options aside, David Yates looks set to be the next director, so considering these results is this a good choice? Part of me thinks it's a shame because he will then have directed three of the films and something I really was starting to like about it was the progression of the story through different director's eyes.
