Marvin Gaye biographical film gains Gandolfini
James Gandolfini is joining one of the films about the life of Marvin Gaye, this is the one starring Jesse L. Martin in the lead.
We had heard that there were two films on the go back in May of 2006, and that was pretty much the last we heard, now it seems that they are moving forward, and this one very positively so.
Sexual Healing written and directed by Lauren Goodman which concentrates on his later life once he had put his past life of drug abuse behind him and stars Jesse L. Martin from Law & Order.
The other film we heard about at the time was Marvin: The Life Story of Marvin Gaye, which was to be directed by D. Stevens from a screenplay by Greg Guss and Robert Scharrer.
Goodman's film is to look at the later years of the star, ignoring his earlier years of drug abuse and concentrating on his parting from Motown records, his move to Europe, and his recording of his biggest selling album Midnight Love.
The Stevens film however will look at his whole life and examine who the real person was, not just the reformed Marvin Gaye.
Either way, these stories are going to bring a great revival of his music, and I'm really excited to see what comes out from them.
The news from Reuters through Yahoo News tells us that James Gandolfini, who was already producing the Lauren Goodman film, is now co-starring as Gaye's promoter Freddy Cousaert.
This film has great promise, and I'm really keen to find out some more information about the production, and maybe see and hear Martin as Gaye.
