More board game films coming
I can still hardly believe that Ridley Scott is set to develop a film based on the Monopoly board game, even if he does seem to be concentrating on the darker side of people during the game, I still don't see it.
So the news today that Hasbo has done a deal with Universal to develop even more games into films I find even odder, although to be fair one of them has already made it to film.
Do you remember Clue with Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Lesley Ann Warren, Madeline Kahn, Eileen Brennan and Michael McKean, based on the boardgame Cluedo? I do, and I always remember that closing line, which makes more sense if you've actually seen the whole film:
"I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife."
It actually has a crazy ending where it replays various possible endings with "it could have happened this way..." until we see the final, real ending.
I thought it was a lot of fun. Well Cluedo is just one of the properties on the deal that looks set to become another boardgame adaptation - now that sounds strange, perhaps videogame adaptations won't be so badly looked up upon now.
According to the Eonline story through Yahoo News the Universal-Hasbro deal includes many games and other toy properties of the company, apart from Transformers and G.I. Joe which are already at Paramount.
Could we be seeing a new Cluedo film? Perhaps a film based on Battleships? What could possibly come out of the Hasbro deal next? Has anyone an idea or a preference? Risk or Magic: The Gathering would both carry possibilities...I think far more than Monopoly does.
