Spirit Awards 2008 winners
The winners of the Film Independent's 2008 Spirit Awards have been announced, and these are perhaps the most interesting set of awards we're seeing this year.
When ceremonies are following ceremonies like sheep, it's good to see some talent being appreciated, whatever the hype or star power behind them.
The Spirit Awards have shown recognition to Philip Seymour Hoffman of The Savages (Filmstalker review) which I do agree with, but I would have liked to have seen Laura Linney up there too. Looking through the list they all seem deserving, and there isn't one that I'd think "Hollywood bandwagon" on.
Okay, maybe Juno, but you know what, just because it saw some recognition doesn't mean it isn't a great film and deserving of it.
Great recognition for Chiwetel Ejiofor too, something that he needs much more of, what a superb actor he is.
