Wolf Boy to follow Wolf Man?

Not really, this is a much more serious and real world tale. The Weinstein Company has picked up the rights to a novel by Evan Kuhlman called Wolf Boy: A Novel (Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com).

The story is of the youngest boy in the Wolf family who creates a comic book superhero based on his brother recently killed in a car crash. He channels his grief into the story and tries to come to terms with the loss.

Irwin Winlker, who is co-producing the feature, said of the story in Variety:

"What appealed to me most was the young man who finds refuge in the creation of this graphic novel and how that impacts the process of healing between the boy and his father."

It does sound like a powerful story, and one that is really going to touch the audience. However instead of following the traditional heart tugging plot line, the screenwriter Christopher Parker is taking his animation background and applying it in an unusual way.

Although the details are sparse we do hear that he's going to use a "clever" mix of live action and animation. What that clever is I don't know, but expect the characters to be speaking to the boy and perhaps his brother to come to him through his own story. Moving indeed.
