Ledger in, Gilliam's Parnassus continues
Filming has continued on Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus with Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law replacing the role of Heath Ledger.
It seems that Heath Ledger had completed filming all the "real world" aspects of his character before his death and next he had to film the three fantasy world aspects that he was entering, and now those roles are to be played by the three different actors.
The "real world" aspects of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus have Heath Ledger playing the lead character in a contemporary London, while the remaining film sees the character enter three mirrors and travel to three different worlds. Each of these segments, where he's in another world, will see the character transform as well and therefore be played by another actor.
Despite the death of Ledger being far too young for anyone, the way that they have coped with it in terms of the film is superb, and I actually think that the changing of the storyline for three new actors in each of the segments could be really powerful and work well.
"I am grateful to Johnny, Colin and Jude for coming on board, and to everyone else who has made it possible for us to finish the film. I am delighted that Heath's brilliant performance can be shared with the world. We are looking forward to finishing the movie and, through the film, with a modicum of humility, being able to touch people's hearts and souls as Heath was able to do."
I really am looking forward to this film, and not because of Heath Ledger's last appearance, but because of the multiple actors playing the same role and the talent involved. It has taken on an extra dimension that is rather intriguing. This seems the only way they really could have continued the film don't you think?
