Li and Chan team up again

JackieChan-JetLi.jpgJet Li and Jackie Chan are going to be working on another film together after The Forbidden Kingdom, and that comes from the two stars themselves.

I think that's great news, two of the most popular, and perhaps best, martial artists on film today are going to team up again despite them saying that this would be a once only deal.

Jackie Chan said in a recent press conference:

"The first day we started filming, it felt like we had worked together for many years…after filming this movie, we didn't have enough fun."

Jet Li, speaking at the press conference covered by Yahoo News, said:

"In four months (of filming), we went from friends to becoming brothers"

I had heard that they were both considering retiring from martial arts films, and had wondered if their performances would carry the power that some of the previous performances have, however from the comments of the cinematographer Peter Pau through Chan at the press conference, they were too fast and were being asked to slow down all the time.

What's really interesting though is that Chan says this isn't the film that they both originally wanted to work on together, that was actually a script that they started working on some fifteen years ago and that they signed up to this one before it was too late to work together.

"…if I had kept waiting, who knows how long I would have had to wait."

He wouldn't give any further details on the script, but it does sound as though there's something very tangible in there that's going to get made.

What could this project be, and will it be a full eastern film with no Hollywood involvement? Here's hoping. Sure The Forbidden Kingdom looks like a strong film, but there's still a huge concern that this idea of an American teenager being the saviour and getting involved in this martial arts film might bring it down somewhat.

After all we've seen a number of films where a standard Hollywood actor has tried to pull off working with martial artists and it hasn't really worked to date, unless we're talking Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee of course.

So that aside, what are we looking at for a new Jet Li and Jackie Chan collaboration?
