New Redbelt trailer online

Redbelt.jpgThere's a new trailer out for David Mamet's Redbelt, and while it looks really intriguing, it also looks rather confusing and I'm unsure what the trailer is trying to tell me about the film.

Perhaps what is even more confusing about it is that I know what the plot is already, and the trailer doesn't really seem to be addressing too much of that.

We see that the martial arts teacher is running out of money and that he's thinking about some kind of fight to make money, and at the same time he's teaching a woman how to protect herself.

Then there's the bar brawl where he protects a film star from being beaten up and is offered a job on set.

Then it seems to stop, and I'm not sure how well it addresses what the film is actually about. What would be interesting would be to see this trailer for the first time without having watched the other one or know anything about the plot. I wonder how you would perceive the film then.

As we know it, the plot of David Mamet's Redbelt is about a man who trains people in martial arts and his school is running out of money. After he's used by an actor and the film business he's put in even more dire circumstances and has to consider entering a fighting competition to gain the money he needs to survive, and the competition doesn't seem to be that fair after all.

It's surprising how little of that comes through in the trailer, although I do like this cut, I don't think it's the most powerful one for the cinema. You can see it for yourself over at Yahoo Movies [Flash:QT:480p:720p:1080p] through First Showing.

While doing a few searches I found a site that has some shots of the star of the film, Chiwetel Ejiofor, being trained up in the art of Ju-Jitsu. It looks like Ejiofor has the fear of god in him with some of the shots!
