Reeves was Dr Manhattan
Keanu Reeves has revealed that he was going to play Dr Manhattan in the upcoming Watchmen film but it seems scheduling conflicts put pay to that.
Not only was he going to play Dr Manhattan but he was also going to be Racer X in Speed Racer. One might ask if it really was scheduling or if Reeves was just backing away from the cartoon type superhero roles?
Saying that though he is taking on the iconic lead role in The Day the Earth Stood Still remake, but it's perhaps that film and his current Street Kings that tempted him away, both dramatic roles, and both quite far from the comic book past he's been labelled with through the Matrix series.
Through MTV Movies Blog Keanu Reeves said that it was scheduling conflicts that the roles just didn't happen, or rather he said that they just didn't work out.
I would have thought that he would have been a great choice for Dr Manhattan, but we'll have to see how it turns out without him.
The real question will be if he will end up regretting his turning down the Watchmen role and if his more dramatic turns in Street Kings and The Day the Earth Stood Still will be more fruitful for his long term career. Personally I think it's the latter.
