Tropic Thunder HD trailer surprises

TropicThunder.jpgThe trailer for Tropic Thunder has arrived and it's also in high definition. The film is Ben Stiller's latest comedy, and one that I think might just break his run of “same as before” comedy films.

One thing is for sure I laughed much more than I have with previous Stiller films of late, and that means more than none. It actually looks pretty good, colour me converted, and with Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Nick Nolte, Tobey Maguire, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Matthew McConaughey, and many more big names starring, how could you not be interested?

I've been saying that the film sounds just like Three Amigos for some time now, and when you see the official trailer you can see that the premise does but then they've done some really cool things with it.

Tropic Thunder tells the story of a director is filming a bunch of stars in a big war film in the middle of the jungle, problem is they are all prima-donna's and huge egos, and he's not getting the performance that he wants. So it's suggested that he takes them into the darkest jungles alone and films them guerilla style. It's there that the actors meet the real enemy and are soon caught up fighting them.

There are some cracking lines in the same vein as Amigos, but then there are some really special moments like the entire set-up with Robert Downey Jr. as the Hollywood actor who decides to have plastic surgery to make himself black for the role. You see that's also a rather satirical swipe at Hollywood as a whole, and I like it.

Yes, it's fair to say that Tropic Thunder might be a rehash of the Three Amigos idea, but it's also fair to say that it's looking good in its own right and might be rather hilarious.

Have a look at the high definition trailer over at Yahoo Movies [Flash:QT:480p:720p:1080p] through the official site and Coming Soon.

What do you think? You with me on the looking good part? Is Ben Stiller coming back to the comic fore with this?

Yeah, this looks pretty good. I'll probably cringe my way through Stiller's usual acting, but the rest looks hilarious.

This is going to be hysterical! I didn't see Tom Cruise anywhere in this trailer or did I miss anything?

Yeah, if Stiller can restrain his performance and play is serious then I'd be won over, but he can't and he'll be playing it over the top as always and that'll bug me as much as it sounds as thought it'll be bugging you hap.

Simone - I didn't catch a glimpse of Cruise on the trailer at all, I think that moment will be saved for the film. That trailer must have looked great in HD on your new iMac!

Sssshhh Richard, don't say it out loud! :)
