Eli Roth on science fiction
Eli Roth has been speaking about the next project he wants to start on, and it's not horror, it's science fiction. Not only that but it appears that he's trying for a PG-13 rating as well.
According to Roth himself he's a mere two weeks away from having completed the script and it sounds as though the film is going to be heavy on science fiction and action.
Speaking about the project he said:
“This will be my first big-budget, PG-13, mass-destruction movie...I went total chaos and pandemonium.”
Now that sounds interesting, although he won't give anything more away about the story, Reuters through Yahoo News say that the film will be comparable to Transformers and Cloverfield. Frankly I think Cloverfield is much more his style while Transformers really isn't something I could see him aspiring to.
He goes on to speak about how he wants a break from the horror side of his films, something that I can understand given the press he's received.
“I feel like I pushed the violence in R movies about as far as I can push it. I feel like I'm bled out. I wanna switch it up...Everyone I know has been saying 'When are you gonna do a movie my kids can see?' And finally, I'm gonna make a movie that 13-year-old kids can see.”
People have been saying that to Eli Roth? Well that's interesting, it's probably not the first thing I would think of saying. However I could see him doing a strong science fiction film. What do you think? Is there something in Roth apart from horror?
He does appease the Roth horror fans by pointing out that the DVD release of the film will be unrated and have more than the PG-13 theatrical version. Phew.
