Jackson and Microsoft on Halo again?

Halo.jpgI'm a little confused by this story because it's not really certain what's happening with the project, but news is that Microsoft are working with Peter Jackson on the future of Halo.

Now the big question is, will this be a film, even an animated one, or are the Jackson team coming in to develop a new stage in the Halo game franchise?

A few days ago Microsoft posted new job adverts on its site for various positions to:

“...help develop a new experience in the Halo universe.”

What's specifically interesting about the roles is that the responsibility blurb states:

“Direct the tone and timber of the project with an eye towards compelling character development, visionary narrative progression, and addictive gameplay...

...Partner with key Hollywood talent to collaboratively craft a masterful game experience...

...Bridge the gap between storytelling and the interactive experience while delivering on the Halo soul.”

So it does look like it's a game, but if Peter Jackson is on board are we looking at a much stronger story orientated one, or is there perhaps going to be something more to go along with it? Who knows right now.

The story comes from MTV Multiplayer through Joystiq who point out that there's no mention of Bungie in there and that rumour has had it that Peter Jackson and Microsoft have been working on a project called Halo: Chronicles for some time. Perhaps this is it?

Well Microsoft were very quick to confirm the Halo project:

“A Peter Jackson-helmed Halo project was announced at X06 in Barcelona...Since then, Microsoft Game Studios has been hard at work collaborating with Peter Jackson and Bungie on the development of that project. At this time, it’s necessary to grow the internal team to keep pace with development. Bungie will continue to remain involved in multiple aspects of the Halo Universe with MGS.”

It seems that the world of film and videogames really are coming to meet each other in ways other than quick and dirty film adaptations.

So Halo the film might be dead, but the new Halo game looks like it's moving forward with the help of Peter Jackson and crew. They'll most likely be building the cinematic storytelling aspect, something that is much needed after the complete mess of story in Halo 3, and hopefully creating a unique experience.

However you can't help but wonder if they could churn out a few animated Halo films to push the idea of a full length, big budget, Halo film some more.
