McConaughey as Magnum P.I.
Matthew McConaughey is apparently being offered the role of Magnum P.I. in the feature film adaptation of the eighties television series that starred Tom Selleck and was such great entertainment.
Interestingly rumour had it in January 2007 that he was being eyed for the role, as well as the rumour that Nicolas Cage was going to take the lead - thank the lord that hasn't come to fruition!
According to Entertainment Weekly through Latino Review he's actually reading for the part right now, well maybe not right now.
"Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in Universal Pictures' adaptation of Magnum P.I., based on the successful '80s television show that starred Tom Selleck. The character, a former Navy Seal turned reluctant detective, seems a sweet match for the laid-back actor. McConaughey, we're told, is reading the script from writer/director Rawson Thurber (Dodgeball) and will decide shortly."
Matthew McConaughey was first talked about in regards the film way back in January of last year in a story that listed a number of other actors in certain roles - I wonder if these guys might come through for the parts too? If so this is a really interesting line up.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, the director and writer of hit comedy Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, is finally ready to go on his redraft...Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn and William H.Macy who last played together in the movie Sahara, are signed to star as Magnum, Rick and Higgins respectively. Tyrese Gibson, from the upcoming blockbuster Transformers, is coming on board to play T.C.
Now think of that cast, doesn't that sound good? McConaughey is a great choice for the character, but the bigger question is do we really need a film version of Magnum? What does it boil down to these days, just another detective story with a couple of cool cars and soe ex-Iraq vets living in Hawaii?
