V the film?

V-miniseries.jpgWe heard about a possible film version of the television series V some time ago, but it's never come to fruition. Well that could well be changing with the news from the creator of that mini-series that the film production is under way.

According to the creator of the original Kenneth Johnson he's bringing back his miniseries and this time to the big screen, and it sounds like it's underway.

“… since I own the motion picture rights to V, we’re in the process to do a remake of the original mini-series first as a theatrical feature, which I’m so jazzed about because it will give me an opportunity to really realize it and execute it in a way that was impossible to do back then. Then that will lead to the obvious sequel, because it is a franchise, and then we’ll get into The Second Generation and I’m hoping we’ll be able to do two movies, because there’s certainly enough material in the novel to warrant two separate sequels. That’s my goal at this point and that’s what we’re in the process of doing. I just literally came from a meeting, 15-20 minutes ago with a fellow in Beverly Hills who really says that we’re gonna do it.”

Well the rumour came out ages ago that something was going to be happening, but I never realised that it was racing ahead this quickly.

The Dead Bolt through /Film caught that comment from Johnson and it sounds like it's heading forward and if it works we're looking at a V trilogy.

I loved the V miniseries when it came out and I'm really keen to see what they could do with a film version. The effects back then were pretty good and because they concentrated on the people an the relationships they managed to keep the effects shots to a minimum, now though, they could really do something great.

However do they need to? Haven't they done the series already and made it just the way we wanted to see it? Is there a need to see it with bigger ships and better effects, and more convincing lizard like people? Is there really more to come from the story?
