Weaver says Alien series is dead
Sigourney Weaver has said that the Alien series with her character of Ellen Ripley as the lead, is effectively dead, and all because of Fox and the Alien vs. Predator series.
What's more is that she wants to effectively let Ripley stay dead and reveals that her and Ridley Scott had discussed another film.
I find it an incredible shame that they had talked about another film and it had never come to pass, here's what the captivating Sigourney Weaver had to say about the idea:
“The last time [Ridley and I] saw each other we talked about it. The character is still interesting [and] I’d love to work with Ridley again...But Fox has effectively killed it because of ‘Alien vs. Predator.’ What else can you do with the creature? You can take the situation, you can go back to where they came from......To play someone who ages a couple hundred years was fascinating,” she added. “[But] let [Ripley] rest.”
The comments from from MTV Movies Blog and really do dishearten me. If you think back to before the AvP films began we could really have seen another proper Aliens film being made, one with Weaver as the superb Ripley character, a character who was now part Alien herself and had just crash landed on Earth with a cargo which might well have contained a few more Aliens.
Of course there's nothing to say that would have been the direction that Ridley Scott would have taken the story, but that's where we were left.
However it looks like that's all gone, and all thanks to Fox, AvP and Paul W.S. Anderson. Yet there could be a glimmer of hope, we've seen so many action stars come back of late, why not Ripley?
Do you think that there's anything that could persuade Ridley Scott and Sigourney Weaver to return to the franchise once more? I really would love to see his take on Aliens on Earth, if that's the way they took it.
