Clint Eastwood will not return to Dirty Harry

ClintEastwood.jpgClint Eastwood has put the kibosh on any rumours that he will one day revisit Dirty Harry. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival he put the record straight.

Clint Eastwood was there to promote his film with Angelina Jolie called Changeling. We already know that his new project Gran Torino, will not see him back as Dirty Harry. There were still some rumours of him going back to that role, but he seems pretty clear:

No. That rumour's incorrect.I have no intention. There are certain things you have to be realistic about. Dirty Harry would not be on a police department at my age, so we'll move on from that.

The quote comes from Reuters. I actually find that reassuring. In the current climate of endless remakes, reimaginings and sequels, it's good to know that at least one film is off the agenda. Well, until someone else decides they are going to play Dirty Harry. Are you pleased Eastwood isn't going back to Dirty Harry? Or would you quite like to see that character back, but as an older law enforcer in a more modern Police department?

Eastwood should reprise the role. Harry would have to come out of retirement on some special project or a consultant on a particular case. They would certainly have to take his age into account in writing the script but I think it would be great.

At Cannes, he was asked the question with Jolie present. When he said that he wouldn't be doing the role again, she joked that she would. Eastwood then made a crack about Dirty Harriet. Actually, this would be a fantastic idea. I think she should go for it with Eastwood directing.

Yeah. I'd almost be more up for something with Angelina Jolie, something a bit different.
