Gore Verbinski to make Bioshock
Another video game adaptation has been announced. This time it's Bioshock getting the film treatment. They have a high profile director attached in Gore Verbinski. Universal have gained the rights to make the film version, and have snapped up the director of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.
Following the Halo debacle which ended with the film being shelved, Universal have set up a deal which they hope will ensure the film actually gets made. Gore Verbinski is excited about bringing the Bioshock world to the big screen. He had this to say to Variety:
I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that's cleverly unveiled to players is just brimming with cinematic potential. Of all the games I've played, this is one that I felt has a really strong narrative.
There is no release date scheduled, but Verbinski will start work as soon as the script is finished. Hopefully the deal they have in place will mean that this adaptation actually goes ahead. Could this be the first game to film adaptation that really makes the grade?
