The Doors documentary to be anti Oliver Stone film
Seventeen years after Oliver Stone's film about The Doors, the band are releasing their own documentary. However it's not just about nostalgia, they want to release a film to counter Oliver Stone's version of events.
The band feel that Oliver Stone's film did them an injustice of sorts, and portrayed them as too serious.
Ray Manzarek, the keyboard player in The Doors, has described the documentary as the anti Oliver Stone film. Speaking on Yahoo! Movies, he explained the point of the new documentary, and confirmed that there would be new footage of the band in the film:
Absolutely -- that's the whole point of it. Never before seen! This is the anti-Oliver Stone. This will be the true story of the Doors.
Apparently he has long had a dislike for the film which stars Val Kilmer as the late Jim Morrison. And I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with the newly released Classic Album DVD, and Live in Pittsburgh 1970 CD, and the world tour he's about to embark upon.
Having not been around during The Doors most popular period, I wouldn't know if Stone's interpretation was way off key or not, but it looks like fans of The Doors are in for a new film in six months time.
