Abrams to make mystery house film
Usually it's comic books, books or other films that provide inspiration, but J.J. Abrams is to make a film based on a newspaper article. The New York Times piece is about a New York house with a difference. It has it's own man made mystery hidden inside it's walls.
The owners hired an architect with a difference, who set about creating a house with it's very own mystery story and scavenger hunt. I'd settle for a games room with a pool table.
Penelope Green wrote the article about a family who bought a 1920's co-op over looking Central Park. They didn't want just your average renovation though, and wanted an architect with real vision, eventually they came across Eric Clough. It all started out as a one off request from the husband of the house to include a poem about his family, it was to be hidden inside the house somewhere like a time capsule.
Eric Clough though took it a few steps further and has added a whole series of clues and mysteries. The house even has it's own book and soundtrack. The occupants of the house were unaware of these additions, until a friend of their kids came over and the first clue was found.
Variety say Paramount have bought the article with a few to making it into a film, J.J. Abrams will be producing. I can see it probably working as a kids film I suppose. Don't know about you, but I'd be pretty miffed if some guy had added all kinds to my house without asking. Guess that's just me though!
