Child friendly Beverly Hills Cop 4?
Recently we heard about Beverly Hills Cop 4, and the fact that Brett Ratner was to direct Eddie Murphy in the sequel. Well, Ratner may have plans to make it a films for kids and make it with a PG rating.
WTF. I was hoping for something a little different in the series, but this certainly isn't it.
Axel Foley will be returning to Beverly Hills again, shouldn't the guy just move there already? And Brett Ratner has decided it's time to re-invent the series for a new audience. Speaking on MTV Movies Blog he said:
10-year-old kids, 12-year-old kids don’t really know the old ‘Beverly Hills Cop.’ So it’s an opportunity to make it new for kids. The same way it felt for me watching ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ when I was a kid, that’s what I want to do for kids today.
Except not, because the other films weren't aimed at 10 to 12 year old kids. That might explain why they aren't really familar with the series. Honestly first we have Terminator going to PG-13 potentially, and now Beverly Hills Cop could be turned into an almost family friendly film. I would have thought Eddie Murphy would have had enough of those films. I've certainly had enough of watching him in them.
Of all the things they could do with a Beverly Hills Cop sequel, this one doesn't do it for me. What about you? And what's with diluting films, so that they can try and appeal to both adult and child audiences. Is it me or is that happening more and more lately? I know it's all about money, but I wouldn't mind being able to go and see the odd decent film that school kids can't into.
