Religulous trailer to upset
Undoubtedly the trailer for Religulous is going to upset religious groups, mind you not half as much as the film will do if the trailer is anything to go by.
It follows a similar documentary style to Michael Moore's films and sees Bill Maher, the acclaimed comedian and television host who has been known to upset people before with his commentary, asking religious and political people some key questions about just how daft the whole religion thing is.
Bill Maher is following a growing trend of publicly speaking out against organised religion, and indeed religion in general, something that can get you into almost as much trouble in America as it can in some Middle and Far Eastern countries, something that's hinted at in the trailer.
Personally I find the trailer for Religulous exciting, refreshing, and rather cutting, in a reflective and totally honest kind of way. However I know there will be many people out there who don't, and will think that this is a huge infringement of their rights and of the rights of their religious beliefs.
Still, it's a cracking trailer and I love Maher's comment about Santa, as well as Bush's comment about how his god loves freedom and that's why it's in his foreign policy. I guess that explains Iraq and Guantanamo.
What do you think? Too much? Too little? Are you a fan of these documentaries that are looking to question the motives and beliefs behind organised religion, and if not do you have a rational argument why?
