Straczynski on Silver Surfer
J. Michael Straczynski has been busy writing a script for a Silver Surfer spin off film. But now he says that off the back of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, he's not sure if it will be made.
The studio aren't happy with the response to the Rise of the Silver Surfer, and it seem it's left them nervous of another Silver Surfer film.
J. Michael Straczynski had been working on a script for Silver Surfer, the idea being to pick up exactly where Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer left off. He had already told us that it would answer where Silver Surfer came from and why he became the Surfer. That all seems to be up in the air though as he told Sci Fi Scanner through superherohype:
Whether or not it ever gets made I don't know because they were kind of disappointed in how Fantastic Four 2 did. And given how this will be a subset of FF2 in terms of the marketing strategy, I think there is hesitation there about putting it forward. The script is pretty good, I like it, but whether or not it goes into production, I have no idea.
He also talked about how he envisaged Galactus in the next film:
In the script I come up with some ways to visualize him that are true to the original, but take it one step further using the current CGI technology that we have. So we would have seen him as a character on numerous occasions in the second movie, not inconsistent with the first distant shot of him in that that's just a way of concealing who and what he really is. Believe me, he would be not at all silly looking. So the Silver Surfer film may not see the light of day. Maybe they are waiting until the market isn't so overcrowded with superhero films. Has Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer put you off a Silver Surfer origins film? Or are you hungry for more?
