I Am Legend prequel confirmed

IAmLegend.jpgFrancis Lawrence has confirmed what we had been hearing for a long time, that there was work on going on a sequel to I Am Legend. Well, he confirms most of that but reveals something new. It's a prequel.

Lawrence was talking at Comic-Con and discussed the plans and setting for the prequel, and with Will Smith interested, it looks as though it might just happen. The question is will it work?

Francis Lawrence, the director of I Am Legend (Filmstalker review), has said that he and the team are trying to work out some ideas for the prequel, and he says it would definitely be a prequel.

“Yes, yes, absolutely, we're actually trying to crack that. We're trying to figure out some ideas for it, but yes, it would be a prequel...

...In the prequel, it's slightly different because it's earlier. We were three years later so we did a lot of research into the way nature would have sort of overtaken the city, with the cracks in the streets and the weeds, so if it's just back earlier, it'll be slightly different so the approach will be different. We're not positive of the time of the year, because if you go in winter, you can do some entirely different kinds of things.”

So far, from his comments through Shock Till You Drop and Filmonic, it sounds as though work is in the earliest of stages, and he's not revealing if Will Smith is in or out as yet.

I'm uncertain though, it kind of feels like it would end up being the same film with a little less of everything, less creatures, less anger in the character, less deserted streets. The only thing there would be more of are survivors...until they all died out that is.

I just can't figure an angle, can you?
