Stalked: Whedon's new thriller, Planet 51 gets bought...again
A couple of interesting articles today to round up, one is that Joss Whedon has written a thriller called The Cabin in the Woods with Drew Goddard and it will be coming to the big screen.
Another is that Planet 51, formerly Planet One, is to get a new distribution deal at Sony after Warner Bros. dumped it.
Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard - come on you know who they are right? We're talking Buffy, Firefly, Serenity (Filmstalker review) and Alias and Cloverfield (Filmstalker review) for the other bloke? Well they've written a thriller called The Cabin in the Woods and it looks like Whedon will now produce and Goddard will make his debut directing it.
The pair have worked on Buffy and Angel together before, but there's no word on what this film will really be about. The news comes from Variety.
The story is about an astronaut who lands on another planet and discovers it's inhabited by green aliens who are living in a world not unlike 1950's America - obviously not any other country. The inhabitants are all paranoid of alien invasion, so when he arrives he's hunted down and a young inhabitant helps hide him. The film is CGI and is being made by iLion Animation with voices featuring Gary Oldman, Dwayne Johnson, Jessica Biel, Justin Long, Seann William Scott and John Cleese.
Warner Bros. inherited the film with New Line's slate when it bought it over, but since then WB have decided to sell it and move on which Variety considers odd since they have a limited release slate and the film was close to completion.
