Cage in Kick-Ass cast

NicolasCage.jpgIt amazes me that no matter how many rubbish films an actor can appear in, they still get work, and so it goes that Nicolas Cage has signed up to star in Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of Mark Millar's comic book Kick-Ass.

Cage is joined by Aaron Johnson, Lyndsy Fonseca, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz, but thankfully it won't be Cage taking the lead.

The story is about a high school nobody who decides to become a superhero, unfortunately he has no super powers or even any natural talent, and so his plan is complicated when he meets real talented bad guys with real guns.

According to Yahoo News the lead will be played by Aaron Johnson with Lyndsy Fonseca playing the woman he's infatuated with at high school. Nicolas Cage will play an ex-cop who wants to bring down a druglord and has trained his daughter, played by Chloe Moretz.

The film is being independently financed since the studios think it's far too violent to take to the big screen, and so that explains the smaller cast, but Cage? I think that these days as soon as you announce Cage in a role a film gets a certain taint to it.

He's far from a great actor, and the news from Cinema Blend that his latest film Bangkok Dangerous isn't getting any press screenings is a bad sign. His run of luck is continuing and there's nothing looking like it's going to break it.

Well actually that's not true I can see Kick-Ass doing superbly well, I just can't figure out why Nicolas Cage has been cast. I mean the last good film I saw him in was...well...8MM?

I used to like Nick Cage. I recently watched Face Off again, and it was as good as the first time. However, his recent work, like Bangkok Dangerous, looks just trashy and silly.

I have seen the Bangkok Dangerous trailer several times, and I can tell you, Nick's dyed hair and Botox'd face scream DENIAL - I am the same age as him. I have some gray hair and wrinkles. So what! He needs to accept who he is and look normal. He doesn't need to try and play romantic leads. He looks creepy.

Wait...8mm was good? Seriously? What was that movie I saw then????? :)

I enjoy a lot of Cage's roles, but I have to admit, seeing the trailer for Bangkok Dangerous just took his recent run to a whole new level. Not a good level mind you. Hope you're right about this one, Richard.

8MM was a good dark film with a seriously bleak outlook, particularly for his character. The film did some pretty risque things with Cage's character, something he doesn't really do much in his career. I liked it.

I think we have to remember that in Kick-Ass he's not going to be the lead and that with the independent financing and the state of Cage's career, he's probably a bit of a steal for the production in terms of big name pulling power.
