Casting for Buzz Aldrin film
I knew that there was a Neil Armstrong film underway, but I didn't realise that there was a Buzz Aldrin film as well. Aldrin himself has been talking about the film and reveals that his wife would like Reese Witherspoon to play her in the film.
Saying that though, so far though Aldrin is till in talks regarding the film and there's no deal made as yet, but I can't see that being the case for long can you?
Part of the success of In the Shadow of the Moon (Filmstalker review) was undoubtedly down to Buzz Aldrin who comes across the screen as a hugely likeable person and full of life and excitement. Out of all the astronauts on screen he was the one that engaged me the most, so to consider a film being made of his life is an exciting prospect.
What's quite ironic is that the idea of a film of this astronaut's life comes a close second behind that of the reclusive Neil Armstrong.
Over at Contact Music they have a comment from Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon, regarding the film and there he reveals who his wife would like to play her and why.
“Lois likes Reese Witherspoon because she played a similar part in Walk the Line...
...My experiences post-flight were ones of not being very productive for quite a while - depression and alcoholism, things like that. I was trying to recover from that and ran into (Lois) afterwards.”
Walk the Line (Filmstalker review) is a great film with a superb performance from Reese Witherspoon, but if the stories are very similar then would she want to play the role again? Well as the wife of such a well known and iconic figure as Aldrin, I suspect so.
The real question though is if this film would ever get made, and I suspect that there would be a great audience out there for it. I'd love to see the story of these men since the moon landings, and see how they've been treated by the human race from the moment they returned to Earth. What about you?
