Watchmen mini-review

Watchmen_Poster.jpgAlthough no one is going to see Watchmen to review for a very long time, and I hope that it gets the same blogger screening treatment that 300 did as even if it costs me hundreds again I'll still do it, someone outside the production has apparently already seen the film.

Kevin Smith makes a short reference to it on his site and says that he's seen it. What he has seen has him impressed, in fact he's positively raving about it.

Here's what he said on his MyMarketingSpace through Jo Blo:

“I saw 'Watchmen.' It's [expletive removed - Richard] astounding. The Non-Disclosure Agreement I signed prevents me from saying much, but I can spout the following with complete joygasmic enthusiasm: Snyder and Co. have pulled it off.

Remember that feeling of watching "Sin City" on the big screen and being blown away by what a faithful translation of the source material it was, in terms of both content and visuals? Triple that, and you'll come close to watching "Watchmen." Even Alan Moore might be surprised at how close the movie is to the book. March can't come soon enough.”

Now Kevin Smith can be as guilty of being a fan boy as many of us, but these words are particularly strong and there's the very fact that everything said and shown of Watchmen has been indicating a nigh on perfect adaptation of the film.

I think Smith is right when he says that Alan Moore might be surprised by it, and I've said it many times before, Moore's anti-Hollywood stance is going to come back to hurt him one day, and this might be the day. A nigh on perfect Watchmen adaptation could make him realise he should have stuck with his properties and had a go at pushing Hollywood to this point, like Frank Miller.

That aside, this is the first seriously positive review of Watchmen outside of the production, and we might just be in for a fantastic cinematic experience regardless of the comic book adaptation aspect.

Saw the trailer for this at the movies over the weekend and it looks fantastic, looking forward to seeing it, not that I really know anything about the source material.

Oh boy, I can't wait to see the film on the big screen. Let's hope it's not going to be held back!
