Affleck to direct and star in Town

BenAffleck.jpgThere's no argument, Ben Affleck is far better behind the camera than in front. With Gone Baby Gone he proved himself to be a superb director and hopes are high for his next directorial work.

So the news that he is going to write, direct and star in a film called The Town has a mixed reception from me. Excited because he's going to be writing and directing, but far from excited that he's going to be acting.

The film is adapted from the Chuck Hogan novel The Prince of Thieves (Play.com / Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com) which is about a thief who becomes romantically involved by the manager of a bank. I guess the chances are that he can't help temptation and battles his desire to rob the place with his desire for her.

Peter Craig and Chuck Hogan recently wrote a draft of the script which Ben Affleck is going to rewrite according to Variety.

I think this sounds a little bit stock for me, unless it is going to be going a different direction from the one I'm thinking of. Let's hope his wife won't be playing the bank manager, we've seen where that type of casting has led before.

Wadsworth: But he was your second husband. Your first husband also disappeared.
Mrs. White: Well, that was his job. He was an illusionist.
Wadsworth: But he never reappeared!
Mrs. White: [admittedly] He wasn't a very good illusionist.
