Closing Credits: Paul Newman

PaulNewman.jpgHollywood actor/director Paul Newman passed away yesterday, aged 83, following a battle with cancer. The Hollywood legend, was having chemotherapy until June this year, but he refused to comment on his health.

Paul Newman was an amazing actor, who had many other passions as well. He'll be sorely missed.

Paul Newman had a 50 year movie career, and he starred in films such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. He won an Oscar for the Colour of Money in 1987, and retired from acting in 2006.

He was also a philanthropist and set up his own food range, the proceeds of which went to charity. And he also co-owned a car racing team. He was married to the actress Joanne Woodward. The news comes from Sky News.

He had been fighting a private battle against cancer recently, and passed away yesterday. Suffice to say, he was a true Hollywood legend. And is a great loss.

Paul Newman

What a loss. Now my Mum, who passed away on Wednesday, is probably chatting him up somewhere!

I think it's such a shame that Colour of Money is his only Oscar win, especially considering the amount of great performances he has delivered.

Very sorry to hear that news Richard, my condolences and sincere sympathies..
When I heard the news about Newman I thought about all of his truely great roles and thought to myself, this guy has to have at least three oscars, that being modest knowing how much they screw up those things.
But only one, what a shame.
Just goes to show you that awards dont speak on ones career, some of our greatest talents fail to be appretiated in their time, even giants like Newman.

The last film I saw of Paul Newman was Cat on a Hot Tin Roof which I thoroughly enjoyed. Have been putting off watching Cool Hand Luke for quite sometime and now I have the urge to get it on DVD.

A real big loss to the industry.

Firstly Richard, please accept my condolences on your mothers passing. Having lost my grandmother a few weeks ago I can understand how hard this must be for your family.

As for Newman, he was indeed a great actor and will be much missed. There's still quite a few of his films I've yet to see, particularly his early roles and yes(like Simone) "Cool Hand Luke" too.

Thanks for the condolences guys, and I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother Morbius, it's a terrible time, but hopefully you have friends and family like I have who rally around and make it so much easier.
