Lethal Weapon 5 waits on Gibson
The idea of Lethal Weapon 5 has been bouncing around for a while now, with nothing really concrete happening. Rest assured though it's still in the works, and with new characters involved.
Turns out they are waiting for the man himself, Mel Gibson. Well we wouldn't want a fifth film without him, would we?
It's been over a year since the last rumours of Lethal Weapon 5. And the problem then seemed to be a script, and the fact that Mel Gibson was reluctant. Now Hollywood Insider, through Movies Online, say that Joel Silver is now trying to get Gibson's approval on a treatment written by Shane Black.
Shane Black wrote the previous Lethal Weapon films, and also wrote and directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Filmstalker review). They say he has written a treatment for Lethal Weapon 5, which would involve introducing two characters. They would be young NYPD officers. As Gibson is busy with Edge of Darkness, they are waiting to see what he thinks of the idea. Not only that but Black could also be directing the fifth film, should it happen.
Sounds like Lethal Weapon 5 is still moving along, albeit slowly. Do you still want Lethal Weapon 5? Do you want Black to direct, or should it be left with Richard Donner?
