Mendes talks Bad Lieutenant remake

EvaMendes.jpgThe Bad Lieutenant remake, now called Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, just couldn't get any odder could it? Well according to Eva Mendes' latest comments it looks like it could do.

She says that it'll be nothing like the first film with the despair are gone and no provocative aspect to it at all. In fact there's even a little love story there.

The Bad Lieutenant remake, which no one wants it to be known as, stars Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer, Jennifer Coolidge, Xzibit and Brad Dourif, and is going to be directed by Werner Herzog.

Through MTV Movies Blog Eva Mendes talks about her character and reveals the role she's playing:

“I’m a prostitute so I’m a criminal in that sense, but it’s kinda hard to explain. There’s actually a very sweet love story between Nic's character and mine, in a very warped and dark, dark world”

Dark sounds good, but she starts to backtrack a little saying it may be dark, but there's nothing provocative or despairing about Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans:

“[The original was] very provocative and harsh for the sake of being provocative and harsh and in your face, and although I do have a provocative streak about me, it’s never for shock value. I don’t want to be shocked in any way”

Her upcoming film Live! is about a game show where people play Russian Roulette live on screen. Mmmm.

She goes on to say that she has no idea how the film is going to turn out, and all this makes me wonder what we're in for.

“I have no idea what we made in a way because it was so experimental,” she said. “I don’t know [what it's gonna wind up being]”

Oh dear me. First they remake it, take out most of what the original was about and put in Nicolas Cage, Cage who is a film killer and was last on screen with Mendes in Ghost Rider.

Is this really anything to do with Bad Lieutenant or just complete rubbish Lieutenant? Is there really any point in remaking this, and if it really isn't a remake then why call it Bad Lieutenant?
