Stallone as an older Batman?

Stallone.jpgThe wait for news on the next Batman film has thrown up another gem of speculation. This time the source is Frank Miller, and he would like to see Sylvester Stallone as an older Batman.

Now that would be a big departure from the current films. Interesting idea, or madness?

Christopher Nolan, DC and Warner Bros, are still to confirm plans for the next Batman film. This has led to all kinds of rumours, mostly involving casting. Cher, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp have all been mentioned.

Now Frank Miller, the writer of The Dark Knight Returns, has voiced who he'd like to play an older Batman in a film version of his comic book. It's Sylvester Stallone. Miller is quoted in The Los Angeles Times, through Cinema Blend.

Just that mouth of his, the scowl and the way it would look in a mask...I loved Rocky Balboa. This wounded warrior, that's what Batman is in Dark Knight Returns.

I haven't read the comic book, but it does sound like an entirely different Batman. I believe it has Batman as a retired alcoholic. I'm not suggesting it's where the franchise will go next. But it does beg the question, if they did make it into a film, would Stallone make a good Batman? If not who would?

"The Dark Knight Returns" was one of the seminal comic events of the 80's. As I recall Bruce Wayne is about 55 in it. It was originally set in a late 1990's where Ronald Reagan is still President and still has jet black hair!

It ends with Batman in a battle to the death with Superman! (The Joker is also in it.)

Could Stallone pull this off? Just maybe? (I would have loved to have seen Clint Eastwood in this when he was the right age.)

(Note to the curious, avoid Millers sequel "The Dark Knight Strikes Again/DK2" at all costs.)

Clint Eastwood as Batman, now that would be something to see...

I'll have to try and get a read of The Dark Knight Returns, sounds like a pretty twisted Batman universe.

I could see Eastwood playing an aged Joker.

Actually I could see Stallone playing the older Batman alright, that could really work.

What I do hope is that they don't just take the current actors and makeup them older, I really would like to see someone looking the characters age inhabiting the suit.

I seriously doubt this film will get made while the Nolan/Bale franchise is so hot.
