X-Files: I Want to Believe delivers Blu-ray interactivity

XFiles2.jpgThe specifications of the Blu-ray release for X-Files: I Want to Believe have been announced, and with it comes a ream of interactivity.

Not only are we getting picture in picture (you know that thing that was dropped from televisions years ago because no one used it) bit there are tons of additional interactive elements.

The full list is making it's way around the Interflab just now and promises to really show off Blu-ray's latest capabilities as well as the film X-Files: I Want to Believe (Filmstalker review).

Here are the specifications I caught from Horror-Movies.ca:

  • Unrated Extended Cut
  • Audio commentary by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz
  • Body Parts: Special Make-up Effects featurette
  • Chris Carter: Statements on Green Production featurette

  • Gag Reel
  • Music Slideshow - “Dying 2 Live” by Xzibit
  • Theatrical Trailers

The X-Files: I Want To Believe Blu-ray disc
Presented in widescreen (2.40:1 aspect ratio) on a 50GB dual-layer disc authored in BD-J with AVC (MPEG 4) compression with English 5.1 DTS HD Lossless Master Audio and French / Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital.
The BD includes all of the above standard-def DVD special features, plus the following BD-exclusive elements:

  • Picture-in-picture commentary with Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz*

  • In-Movie Features via BD remote direct access*

  • Real-time Index (Red Button)

  • BonusView Commentary (Green Button)

  • Behind The Camera (Blue Button)

  • Storyboards and Concept Art (Yellow Button)

  • Isolated Score track

  • Enhanced for D-Box Motion Code systems

  • Digital Copy of the film for portable media players

That's an incredible offering. Frankly I don't know why anyone would be buying the single disc version, do you? However the Blu-ray version just seems to blow the others out of the water, never mind the standard Blu-ray offerings that are doing the rounds just now.

Great news that it has a full DTS HD 5.1 audio track, and the additional button based extras sound interesting. However I have to wonder what the picture in picture commentary is going to offer. Are we just going to be looking at two talking heads throughout the film?

That aside, this might be worth a purchase just to see the additional functionality.

That's all well and good, but there's just one problem, this film was awful! All the extras in the world can't make this weak television episode worth purchasing.

Oh I don't know, the first Blu-ray live disc would draw my attention, and surely it's not that bad? Really?
