Blindness opening five minutes online

Blindness.jpgBlindness is the film from Fernando Meirelles adapted from the José Saramago novel that tells the story of a plague sweeping through humans that makes them blind. In one town the local doctor's wife seems immune but pretends to be blind in order to stay with her husband despite the world around them changing for the worst.

The film stars Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Alice Braga, Danny Glover and Gael García Bernal, and isn't getting the great reviews that we would have thought it would have before the media got hold of it. Despite that we have the first five minutes of the film for you to see and get a feel for.

The big question is does watching this first five minutes make you want to see the film, and frankly I don't think it does. It doesn't grab me and pull me into the film at all, and although it looks nice, it doesn't do a very good marketing job. You would have thought that they would either have extended the clip for longer or chosen another part of the film to show.

Well, what do you think?

Blindness is one of the best films of the year. In this case, the majority is quite wrong. Give it 5 years and folks will come around to recognize the depth and nuance underneath the bombastic 'lord of the flies' exterior.

Truly one to catch on the big screen too.
