Dear Zachary trailer online
There's a trailer online for a documentary film called Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father which does have a couple of terrible flaws in it, but also has some startling moments and might turn out to be a film worth seeing.
The film began as a journey by a director to chronicle the life of his friend Zachary Andrew, who was a close friend that had been murdered. However events soon began to take a turn for the bizarre during the filming and the film became so much more.
Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father began as Kurt Kuenne's creation of a memorial in film to his friend, but then some shocking news came.
The woman who had murdered him, his lover at the time, was actually pregnant with his child. What then happens appears to be the usual inept and incompetent handling of the legal case allowing his murderer out on minimum bail and messing up the attempt to extradite her to the U.S., however it seems to be filmed from a unique perspective, from a friend capturing the raw emotion and feeling of those involved, Zachary's family.
So the film became something much more, a documentary to pass on to his child so that he could know who his father was, and also to tell him what really happened and who his mother really was, and from the looks of hit one hell of an emotional journey.
That said the director's voiceover is horrendous and you really have to try and struggle through his monotonous and fast paced dialogue, I found myself missing some of what he was saying, and the closing line is a bit clichéd, promising more revelations to come. That said, it does look like it's filled with some genuine surprises and heartfelt emotion.
You can see the trailer below through Variety. It looks really powerful stuff and the comments are very positive about the film.
