Fincher says Rendezvous With Rama dead
David Fincher has revealed that Morgan Freeman's project Rendezvous With Rama is dead in the water, I wonder if Morgan Freeman has been told.
Fincher was talking at a press presentation of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button when he was asked about where the film was, he said that it's not going to happen. I imagine that Freeman might not let it go that easily.
Morgan Freeman has been running with the project for a fair length of time and has been passionate about bringing it to the big screen, the latest director mounted at the helm of the ship was David Fincher, but that looks like it's not going to be.
Arthur C. Clarke wrote Rendezvous With Rama (Play.com / Amazon.co.uk / Amazon.com
), the story of the arrival of a mammoth spaceship within our solar system and man's journey to investigate it, and Freeman has been trying to bring it to the big screen for a good while.
The project has been through a torrid past and according to David Fincher it's got a long way to go yet. According to First Showing he said:
“It looks like it's not going to happen. There's no script and as you know, [Morgan Freeman's] not in the best of health right now. We've been trying to do it but it's probably not going to happen...it's a very intellectual science fiction film, a very difficult book to translate cinematically.”
Regardless of how difficult it is to translate to the big screen without a script it's going nowhere, and Fincher doesn't sound the most positive about the project.
Unfortunately it could be some time before Freeman gets back on his feet and into the groove again and gets this project going again, although I do hope it's soon and that he's straight on board with Rendezvous With Rama. That said it does look like he'll have lost David Fincher from the project, so who's up next?
