Neil Gaiman on Dr Strange film rumours
A few days ago, Kevin Feige talked about a Dr Strange film. He said a film would be likely to happen, post Avengers.
The previous rumour had Neil Gaiman writing, and Guillermo del Toro directing. Gaiman has been giving an update on what he knows of the project.
It was earlier this year that Guillermo del Toro said he would like to direct a Dr Strange film, with Neil Gaiman directing. And it was only a few days ago that Kevin Feige from Marvel said a Dr Strange film was likely, he didn't mention del Toro though.
Premiere, through First Showing.net, have caught up with Neil Gaiman. They asked him what he knew about a Dr Strange film, involving him and del Toro. Turns out he'd love to do one, but only with del Toro.
I would love to write Dr. Strange. It would be absolutely one of my dream jobs [to write] a Dr. Strange movie. Last year I was out in Budapest for three weeks on the set of Hellboy II with Guillermo, and I mentioned to him that I've been, in very very early sort of "I would to do this" talks with Marvel about doing a Dr. Strange movie, and Guillermo's reaction was, "Neil, I want to direct it!"...and Marvel, I think, were very excited too.
As we know del Toro is slightly busy now, with two Hobbit films and a host of others lined up. Who knows if Marvel are planning on waiting for him of not. Gaiman for his part doesn't sound thrilled about being involved without del Toro.
Anyway, the point is we're probably, we may be four years away from Guillermo being free to do it, and I'm not entirely sure I'd want to do it without him. So we'll see.
I guess we are kind of where we were before. Marvel think one is going to happen, and it may or may not involve Gaiman and del Toro. Even without knowing the story of Dr Strange, the idea of these two working together sounds interesting. Let's hope by the time scale Marvel are talking about, that is who they are waiting for.
