Plot details for Cameron Crowe film

CameronCrowe.jpgHaving had us at hello with Jerry Maguire, Cameron Crowe is returning to romantic comedy dramas. His next film didn't have many details attached, but now we have more plot information about the untitled project.

Reese Witherspoon and Ben Stiller are starring, and the plot sounds slightly crazy. Can he make this work?

Cameron Crowe is due to start filming in January next year. The plot from /Film sounds like this:

Ben Stiller stars as a 37-year-old disgraced US weapons consultant named Brian Gilcrest, who is disliked by most everyone. His only friend is a techie named Jeremy “a super-smart and highly aware computer”. As a response to aggression from China, Gilcrest is deployed to a dormant military base in Hawaii to supervise the launch of an advanced spy satellite. Together with the anal and humorless Major Lisa Ng, he must secure the blessings of the native Hawaiian council before the launch. Gilcrest also gets a chance to meet with Tracy (likely Witherspoon), the one love of his life who got away, along with her husband and two kids. On the island he discovers himself.

Sounds a bit wacky but plenty of room for comedy. It then takes an even stranger turn, they end up getting on the wrong side of Hawaiian Gods, and are supposed to throw a sacrifice into an erupting volcano. Erm, okay. Going on Jerry Maguire I'm sure the relationship stuff will be a breeze, the rest sounds like a bit of a departure for Crowe though.

What do you think of the plot? Could this all go wrong? Are you expecting more of the same from Ben Stiller?
