Screenwriter talks Gears of War film

GearsofWar.jpgThe Gears of War film is still moving along, and one of the screenwriters has been talking about what they are planning. And what characters we can expect to see.

The sequel to the first game is out soon, more late nights ahead. You up for it Richard? And it sounds like the film will include most of the creatures from the first.

Len Wiseman is bringing the Gears of War universe to film. With the script awaiting approval from Epic Games, screenwriter Chris Morgan says the film will include Emergence Day. And despite rumours that the film is a prequel, he says it's not really.

There are elements to it that can be considered a prequel, but it's not a prequel as far as I'm concerned. It would be a crying shame not to deal with Marcus and Dom.I would not be interested in the movie if we weren't dealing with them. I want to see those guys. I want to see 'Emergence Day.' I want to see this stuff happen.

I wouldn't want to see a Gears of War film without Marcus, Dom and Emergence Day either. Feel free to leave out Cole and Baird though, could they be any less helpful? Morgan also told MTV News how they plan on bringing all of this to the screen. Seems green screen is out, and CGI will only be used for large sequences.

In [Wiseman's] mind, he wants to make it as realistic as possible, and to blur those lines where your mind says, 'Oh, it's a big CGI film'.

He also says that although the humour in Gears of War will make an appearance, we should expect a serious film.

I think you will definitely have those fun moments, those fun lines and moments between the two. But by and large, I think it will be gritty and real. I want to write and play it as though it happened today. Look outside at your city and imagine that the Locust started rising — that's how I want it to feel.

He also told MTV Movies Blog, that we will be seeing Corpsers, Seeders and Berserkers on screen. No mention of wretches, man I hated those things. All high pitch screeching and acid for blood. Highly disturbing.

I'm slowly getting excited about a Gears of War film. Sounds like they are trying to emulate the best things about the game. Any other Gears of War fans out there? Are you excited to see the film version?
