Superman reboot update

SupermanReturns_Poster.jpgOver a month ago the Superman reboot was confirmed. And it left a lot of unanswered questions. Would Bryan Singer be back? Would a new Superman be cast?

Well now one of the those questions seems to have been answered. The reboot of Superman, might yet still star Brandon Routh.

Usually when something is totally rebooted, they recast the main character. Unless someone is famous for making that role. Sylvester Stallone in Rocky, Bruce Willis in Die Hard. But after one lukewarm outing as Superman, we could be seeing Brandon Routh back as the superhero in a rebooted Superman.

Latino Review caught up with Paul Levitz, President of DC Comics. And he has this to say when asked what was happening with the new Superman film.

Last week Brandon Routh has come around the offices in New York and Los Angeles as of late to talk about Superman and what we want to do.

Seems everyone at involved really liked Routh, and thinks he still has a lot to offer Superman. Maybe they think he didn't get the best of films to work with? They also quizzed him on Batman 3, and that film will determine what happens with Superman.

Everyone is waiting for Nolan to sign on for another Batman, once that happens, the release date for Superman and all other future projects will follow.

The release schedule could look like this if DC have their way. Green Lantern would be out in Summer 2010, Batman 3 would be in Summer 2011, and the Superman reboot would follow the next summer in 2012.

So a reboot, but perhaps with the same star. Would you be happy if Brandon Routh was still Superman? Would a change in tone, or a different approach be enough? Or do you want an all new Superman, literally?

I hope Routh keeps the role, he seemed to really enjoy it and I think he was great as both Clark and Superman.

I think he did a great job in the first film. Oh sure he wasn't perfect, but growing as an actor will help him mature into the role surely. I say give him another chance.

Routh was great as Superman, but bad as Kent. I think they used to much CGI on him, he isn't as muscular or tall as Reeve was and a new Supes is needed, so that when you see him you don't think Returns.

I honestly was pretty disappointed with the last superman movie, and am thrilled to hear they are going to reboot. however as far as Brandon routh is concerned i thought it was..ok, but nothing to rave about. I like Tom Welling's acting as Clark Kent in Smallville. Sure in Smallville he isnt superman yet but he is a tremendous actor as Clark Kent, and even if they are two different identities Clark and Superman are still the same person so i think he'd do well in the roll too. plus imo he looks the part much more than Brandon as Clark and as Superman. so he'd be my pick but maybe me being not thrilled with brandons performance was more to do with directing and overuse of CGI than his acting. either way cant wait!

I have to say I hate Smallville and what they're doing to the whole past of Superman, ripping it apart as they are. However Welling does make a good young Superman.

New Cast! New Director! Tom Welling in the role of Superman! Routh was okay for superman returns. The movie just didn't quite make it!

Tom Welling and Erica Durance should be cast as the new Lois & Clark! And no they do not have to do a Smallville Movie. Why would they?
The WB has to start fresh with new story line
and and new villains. That's a recipe for a blockbuster! Keep the Magnificent John Williams Score.

As for people who say Tom Welling is TV, Give me a break! Lots of TV stars went on to be Movie stars. So don't try and convince me that Tom isn't good enough.

It doesn't make any sense to put the previous actors in the reboot. Kate Bosworth
and Frank Langella were down right Awful! These two characters are supposed to have so much energy and Spunk. I guarantee, if they use the same cast it will be the worst failure in history.

Another point I'd like to make is that Superman is not a dark character. He never was. Thats what separates him from Batman. If you watched Superman in the animated series "Justice League Unlimited" his character was a lot more aggressive and cocky! Minus the John Byrne limitations on his powers. Tom Welling should play Clark Kent in a more George Reeves style than Christopher Reeve rendition. He does so anyway in Smallville.

GET ROUTH OUT, HE WAS AN AWFUL SUPERMAN! ...i don't want tom welling in a superman movie, but i would definitely take him over having routh back
