Terrence Howard on Iron Man recast
A few days ago we heard that Don Cheadle was taking over Terence Howard's role in Iron Man 2. No specific reasons were given at the time, but there were the usual rumours of money being the trouble.
Now Terence Howard has spoken about losing the role, and he doesn't sound happy in the least.
When it was announced that Don Cheadle was taking over the role of Colonel Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes, it seemed strange. With the character set to play a bigger part in the sequel, it seemed a strange time to change actors. Rumours were that money may have been an issue, or that the people involved want to take the character in another direction.
Whatever the reason, Terrence Howard has spoken about the situation, and he isn't happy. Particularly as he found out the news like the rest of us did. He spoke to NPR.org, through Coming Soon.
It was the surprise of a lifetime. There was no explanation. [The contract] just...up and vanished. I read something in the trades implicating that it was about money or something, but apparently the contracts that we write and sign aren't worth the paper that they're printed on, sometimes. Promises aren't kept, and good faith negotiations aren't always held up.
I think we can safely say he's miffed. And from what he says money isn't really the issue. Are you happy that Don Cheadle is taking over? Or should they be sticking with Terrence Howard?
