Beyonce wants to be Wonder Woman

BeyonceKnowles.jpgThe Wonder Woman film has been going no where fast for a while now. There was a time when a lot of names where being mentioned with the role, but it's all gone quiet.

Now one of the most famous women in the world has stated that she wants to play Wonder Woman. It's only Beyonce Knowles.

It was Joss Whedon who was originally working on a Wonder Woman film for DC Comics. But his version was dropped. And last month, we heard that they are still waiting on a script. There is some confusion as to whether it will be an origins story, and where it will be set. Either World War II or modern day are the options at the minute.

Suffice to say, Wonder Woman is in developmental traffic. It hasn't stopped Beyonce Knowles from stating that she'd rather like to play Wonder Woman in a superhero film. She spoke to The Los Angeles Times.

I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?

She says that she has met with people from DC Comics and Warner Bros, and expressed her interest in starring in a superhero film. After two musical roles in Dreamgirls, and the upcoming Cadillac Records, Knowles fancies a go at something different. Although she thinks not too different really.

After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, 'OK, I need to be a superhero.' Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there's also an action element that I would enjoy.

Like most of us she has been impressed with the new take on superhero films lately. And after seeing the original Wonder Woman costume in a museum recently, her interest was piqued.

I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume. The way that Lynda Carter wore it, she was sooo fine. She was amazing. I saw her costume at the Met. Her waist was unbelievable. It was pretty crazy, actually, her proportions. But I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso. To make everybody tell the truth? I need that. It would come in very handy.

So assuming a script is ever produced, and a director agreed on. Do you like the idea of Beyonce Knowles as Wonder Woman?

Before this week I might have said no, now I sa hell yes, great idea.

Uh....no...I am black myself but I see no need for a black wonder woman and especially not beyonce as wonder woman. No beyonce it's not time to remake a golden age character entirely. I know we have (half)black president and all but that doesn't mean it's time to blacken up everything.

Beyonce Knowles can act -that goes without saying-but Wonder Woman-i think for a while there-Josh Whedon had been looking to the Bollywood industry and had tried to get one of the top Indian actesses to try out for the part of the fantastical amazon-i think Knowles can pull it off-but my fear is -Wonder Woman the character is already an iconic figure throughout the literary and tv classics world-and we all have visions of this stunning beautiful independent fearsome but wise 'white woman'warrior-if Beyonce is given the part then DC comics will need to revise their Wonder Woman mythology in the comics- because that is where it all starts.Wonder Woman is a concrete part of the legendary DC trio - Superman, Batman and then Wonder Woman- if we are to be faithful to novel and comic adaptations then we must try to keep to the written tales that we all love and adore-the question then arises-perhaps if the legendary superheroes were written in the present day -there would be an equal number of 'diverse' superheroes
I hate to say this but comic books in the blaxploitation era could be embarassing -anyone remember 'Black goliath' or 'Black Lightning!!!!
Would X-Men fans have accepted a 'white' Storm as she is 'tanned'in the comic book played in the movie form by the delectable Halle Berry? or would Storm character work with the likes of Naomi Watts or Keira Knightley????

I think you've made a very interesting point there Doc. There's also something else to consider, would anyone look at Beyonce playing Wonder Woman and see Wonder Woman, or would they see Beyonce in a Wonder Woman outfit?

I'd definitely see the latter.
