Lethal Weapon 5 still possible
The last we heard on Lethal Weapon 5, Mel Gibson had turned down a script. And Richard Donner, said that he thought Gibson might not do another film without him.
He seemed to think that was the end to any talk of another Lethal Weapon film. But now producer Joel Silver says it may still happen.
With a script written by Shane Black, and Joel Silver and Richard Donner involved, a Lethal Weapon 5 film was looking likely. But it then went from fast tracked to going no where, and Gibson turned the offer down. Donner said that a disagreement between himself and Joel Silver was the reason. His impression was that Mel Gibson would not be involved if he wasn't.
Now Joel Silver has been talking about the film, and says that the main reason it hasn't happend was due to time constraints.
We talked about it, but it was something that Mel didn’t want to do now. It doesn’t mean that he doesn’t want to do it ever, but as of right now, he doesn’t...If we can do it, it would be fun. Shane [Black] had a great take on it, a great idea, a great feeling about it. He did a really complex kind of treatment or outline, very complicated, very good. The idea that they wanted to get it up right away, we couldn’t do that, but we’ll see what happens.
He was talking to IGN through /Film. Well if he is to be believed it could just be a matter of timing. Richard Donner seemed to think otherwise. A while back it was suggested that Shane Black could well write and direct the next film. That could that mean cutting Donner out of the loop entirely. Or maybe he'll be on as a producer.
I guess we will be waiting a while before we find out. Do you want Lethal Weapon 5? Should Shane Black direct?
