Having proved a big hit this year, a sequel to the Sex and the City film has been talked about ever since. Kim Cattrall thinks they might be heading for filming in summer next year.

Now Sarah Jessica Parker has given an update on how likely it is. She sounds like she is still in two minds about making it.

Sex and the City isn't really my thing, bar the odd TV episode I've watched. But even I know the film was a big hit. And despite the first film taking so long to get off the ground, a sequel seems to be moving along a lot quicker. Kim Cattrall recently spoke about a second film, and suggested that filming could start as soon as next summer.

Now Sarah Jessica Parker has talked to MTV about where the sequel is. She has been working with Michael Patrick King on potential storylines. Looks like they have one, but it doesn't involve kids.

We’re at the place where…we think we have this story and how do we put this together and are we completely sure that it’s the right thing to do? [Motherhood] doesn’t seem as if that’s going to be a choice she’ll make. It feels a little bit manipulative to toss that into the mix because she seems so pointed in a different direction.

She doesn't seem up for jumping on the sequel bandwagon for the sake of it either. And realises that it could do more harm than good.

I would do these forever but is it right for the audience? Is this the story that we can tell well? These are the questions I have to ask myself or I’m not being fair to the franchise. That’s where we are.

I guess it's nice to hear that someone is actually seriously thinking over a sequel these days. She does think that a summer start for filming is possible though, but only if they actually make their minds up.

I think it’s a realistic timetable. That’s when we’d start shooting to be out in 2010. But that means we need to figure this out in the next couple of months.

So it's not a certainty just yet. Do you Sex and the City fans want another film? What do you want to happen to the characters?
