AFI Awards 2008

The American Film Institute have popped there heads up with their official 2008 film selection, and while all the critics groups across America are naming theirs, the AFI have seemingly managed to capture a bit of everything, from the popular to the independent to the downright spectacular.

Plus they've done something that the Golden Globes didn't, they managed to get some of the television selection right – mind you they're still missing Battlestar Galactica.

The AFI have selected the following films as their movies of the year:

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
The Dark Knight
Frost/Nixon
Frozen River
Gran Torino
Iron Man
Milk
Wall-E
Wendy and Lucy
The Wrestler

That looks like a pretty solid list, of course there are a couple of title I haven't seen yet, but that seems like a pretty even mix between the popular and the critically acclaimed, actually the whole list leans towards the popular, something a lot of other awards lists aren't doing.

Then there's the television list, and while I like the fact that they've included Lost and The Shield – because if your list didn't include The Shield then you obviously have no clue what great television is all about and are probably working as an executive in television – there's still the complete absence of Battlestar Galactica.

Breaking Bad
In Treatment
John Adams
Life
Lost
Mad Men
The Office
Recount
The Shield
The Wire

Thoughts on those? Would you like me to write about all the critics awards coming out this year, or are you not that concerned?
